THE COMPLETE TRAINING PROGRAM FOR
RUNNING AFRAMES
This program is for building a clear and confident running aframe performance. Regardless of your dog’s aframe experience, you will have the step-by-step process for teaching your dog how to consistently adjust their strides and hit the contact area. Right from the start, you will add distractions and proofing layers to the behavior, ensuring that your dog can maintain their criteria no matter what the handler is doing.
In this program, we will use a PVC box as a target. Focusing on the dog's ability to maintain criteria in various situations before going to the aframe will allow for a smoother transition to the actual obstacle, with a higher success rate. Students may also use a mat for the target. There is a slight difference in striding patterns when using a box vs a mat, and that can be discussed as needed.Â
Â

In this step by step program you'll learn:
Â
-1-
Build a Fluent Target BehaviorÂ
The basic steps include building desire for the target-box and ensuring that your dog understands criteria: all 4 feet in the box.Â
-2-
Flatwork that Mimics the AframeÂ
Through gridwork on the ground, your dog will develop the correct striding for their running aframe in a variety of contexts.Â
-3-
Transitioning to the Aframe and into SequencesÂ
The program will take you through how to introduce the aframe, increase the height of the aframe, and start incorporating the aframe into your sequencing.Â

What You'll Need:Â
âś… You will need a target of some type.  A PVC “box” that is 30” x 36” is recommended. A mat (carpet, yoga mat, etc) is also acceptable.Â
âś…Â You will need a wing jump, one wingless jump, and a tunnel for some of the exercises.
âś…Â You will need at most, a 60X30 space to complete the longer sequences.
âś…Â For the second half of the program, you will need access to an aframe that adjusts from 4’6” to 5’6”high.Â
